"Gumbo in My Blood" is an eclectic compilation of the talents of the New Orleans born-and-raised Kenny Ard. Growing up under the influences of The Nevilles, Irma Thomas, Fats Domino, and Dr. John, Ard studied with the renowned Ellis Marsalis and accompanied B.J. Crosby (of "Smoky Joe's Cafe" fame ) for many years in his home town of New Orleans..... |

"Gumbo in My Blood" is a superb album featuring Ard's New Orleans influences as well as his more recently developed California sensitivities. The final cut on the album,"Creole Capers", co-written with New Orleans favorite Ricky Graham, was ahead of its time with its unique West Coast Swing feel, and "I Dreamed That You Left Me" is a touching ballad sung by San Diego's Detroit-born Janice Edwards, while "The Delta Queen" is reminiscent of New Orleans icon, Dr. John..
All cuts on the album are original except for the medley of Fats Waller tunes, Ain't Misbehaving/ Honeysuckle Rose. "Gumbo in My Blood" is highly recommended listening.
"Missing New Orleans" was recorded live in San Diego in December of 2005, including the entire 7-piece Etouffee combo, featuring lead vocalist Romy Kaye.
